Tensioners are devices used to mitigate the warping forces in panel paintings. They are mounted into a strainer that is designed to conform to the acceptable curvature and apply adjustable tension to the painting,s panels.
They are available in LINEAR and CONCENTRIC styles. In both styles the tension can be adjusted by means of a screw or nut. In the case of the CONCENTRIC style, the tension can be increased substantially by stacking a second and even third spring disc.
